At least three women, one of them a 23-year-old French citizen, were killed after being seriously injured in an explosive device attack at a shopping mall in northern Bogota, Colombian capital sources said Monday. .

The Country Clinic said in a statement that Ana María Gutiérrez, 27, and Lady Paola Jaimes, 31, “died as a result of injuries sustained.” Previously the mayor of Bogota, Enrique Peñalosa, had reported that a foreigner also died as a result of the attack, whose authorship has not yet been determined.

“The young woman (dead) is a 23-year-old French girl,” Peñalosa said, and indicated that she was providing social service at a Bogota school. The alderman added that of the eleven wounded three are serious.

The attack took place at 5:00 pm local time (22:00 GMT) in the bathrooms of the second floor of the Andino Shopping Center, in the north of Bogota.

The attack occurred on a marketed day, the eve of Father’s Day in Colombia

This Saturday, on the eve of the celebration of Father’s Day in the country, shops announced the day “Bogota Awake”, which extended until midnight the hours of attention in the shopping centers of the capital.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said in his Twitter account that he ordered the director of the police, General Jorge Hernando Nieto, “to conduct research and keep me informed.” Likewise, he expressed his “solidarity with the victims”.

After the explosion, the authorities ordered the evacuation of the shopping center and were closed several streets nearby.

Technicians in explosives came to inspect the place to determine what type of cargo was used in the attack.

The death of the Frenchwoman comes two days before Santos travel to Portugal and France from 20 to 23 this month with an agenda of diplomatic, economic and cultural.

In Lisbon he will be welcomed by his Portuguese counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, with whom he will hold a private interview and a meeting with Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Luis Santos da Costa.

From Lisbon, Santos will move on 21 in the afternoon to Paris, where he will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron.
